2020 Porsche Taycan vs 2020 Jaguar I-PACE

Serving North Bethesda, MD

Bethesda-area drivers who crave extreme power behind the wheel of a luxury vehicle often turn their attention to new models from the top luxury automakers, and some of these automakers have engineered stunning electric models. The Porsche Taycan is a new addition to the marketplace, and this is an all-electric, 4-door sedan that has a distinctive, athletic façade. The Jaguar I-Pace is also a newer model available for sale today, and it is a luxury compact crossover SUV. You do not want to settle for less than excellence when you take home your next vehicle, so how do these two luxury models compare?

Exterior

The 2020 Porsche Taycan has been engineered to perfection. From the front end, it has a smooth, prowling look that you would expect from a sports car. The smooth hood has a sharp angle, and this folds around the bumper. The lower air vent curves directly to the bottom of the bumper. The LED headlights have a dual-bar design, and their portals run sharply downward for a dramatic effect. This sedan has the sloped roof and elongated rear light bar that are characteristic of today's Porsche models. In contrast, the 2020 Jaguar I-Pace has a slight bulge over the hood as well as a lowered roof and an extended rear. This profile creates short side windows and gives the I-Pace a stretched look. Its hood and sides are mostly smooth with intentionally-placed, sharp accent features.

Interior

Both of these all-electric vehicles accommodate five passengers and have roomy interiors. They also are dressed up with superior-grade leather material and high-end accent materials. In the Taycan, digital screens flow across the entire length of the dashboard. This includes connected displays for the driver's gauges, the primary media screen in the center stack, and another screen for the front passenger to use. Below the center stack, the climate control features are also accessed via a touch display screen. In the Jaguar I-Pace, the dashboard angles outward, and the center stack is defined by air vents, a multimedia display screen, and rotary knobs from top to bottom. The console rises up to meet the stack, and it has multiple rotary and button controls to manage the vehicle's operation.

Performance

While these are both electric vehicles, their capabilities are significantly different. The 2020 Porsche Taycan has an 800-volt performance battery with a recuperation management system and a permanent magnet synchronous machine. It also comes with over-boost power and launch control, and it delivers acceleration up to 60 miles per hour in 3.8 seconds. The Taycan has a top track speed of 155 miles per hour. The Jaguar I-Pace, on the other hand, pairs its battery with two permanent electric motors. This design gets you up to 60 miles per hour in 4.5 seconds.

* Charging time for direct current (DC) with maximum charging power (5 to up to 80%). To achieve the stated charging time for corresponding state of charge range, the following is required: a CCS DC fast charging station with > 270kW and > 850V and a battery temperature range of 86°-95°F. For physical and chemical reasons, the charging speed decreases as the battery approaches its full capacity. Charging speeds over 80% state of charge are significantly slower and not recommended for daily use. For regular fast DC charging usage, we recommend charging at 50kW stations.
